And just like that...it's Spring!

So Winter has come and gone-- so quickly. Although it is still cool here in the Northwest, Spring has quite definitely sprung--flowers, shrubs, birds, and pollen!
The studio was steadily creating over the last few months and drop-in is now picking up as Snowbirds arrive back. I didn't do a large trip away this year, just a short vacation with my daughter and family to Mexico in February.
One sad event was the passing of my wonderful 'Studio Cat', Theo, last month. He was a beautiful ragamese (siamese/ragdoll cross) who charmed all the artists and visitors.

Several of my studio people submitted works into the Campbell River Member's Show at the Campbell River Art Gallery in January. It was a great showcase of local art.

The variety of art genres and styles (and talent)  in the drop-in groups continue to impress me... here are a few of their creations.
An Intermediate watercolour class was fun--- here are a few pics of their work.
Happy Easter!

End of Autumn

It is definitely the end of autumn here on the wet west coast- we've had much cooler temperatures, leafless deciduous tress and storms, even a 'Cyclone Bomb' with huge winds and torrential rain. So it is almost the Christmas season and hence the beginning of our winter.
Although I haven't posted for ages, there is still a  hub of busyness and creativity here in the studio. A few of the students latest works are in the below gallery.
Last week a couple of my students and I attended the Eastside Culture Crawl in Vancouver. Once again it was fabulous, hundreds of studios and amazing art in all media and genre. Well worth the thousands of steps walking around the east side area!

Spring is officially here! Tulips, rhodos and fruit trees are blooming (my mason bees are very busy) and the trees are a hundred shades of green. I love it!
The studio is also bursting with creativity. Here are a few of the artworks done during the drop in sessions:

Happy Belated New Year and soon to be Lunar New Year! Strange weather all round but now it is February and as the groundhogs have deemed we are well on the way to Spring! Only three weeks ago we had unseasonably cold weather and snow for a few days and now we have unseasonably warm weather! The hellebores, crocus and daffodils are bursting up and it feels like April---hope we don't get a nasty hard frost...

Although it seems an age ago, we had a lovely little Christmas studio gathering-- yummy goodies and a bit of art fun!
The 42nd Member's Show at the Campbell River Art Gallery is now on. This is a joint exhibition put on by the CRAG and the Campbell River Arts Council and features local artists - from emerging to professional. Several of my studio artists have entered artwork, as have I. Try to visit , and vote your favourites for the People's Choice Awards. Below are a few pictures of the show.

The studio is however warm and welcoming. The drop-in sessions have been very full and fun. A new Beginning Watercolour Class has also begun; keen and excited students.

Encaustics and more

Warm weather, open doors and windows and the urge to experiment again had me pulling out all the encaustic gear (it IS very material heavy!) and inviting others to join me to explore the lovely medium of encaustic art.
On the July 29th weekend, seven artists played with hot wax, torches and heat guns, collage items, pastels, and all kinds of markmaking tools. Some very surprising and interesting artwork resulted! Here are few pics of the weekend:

June, lovely June

Warm, wonderful weather (although like most places we do need some rain) has me super busy-trying to get the garden in order, entering local shows, as well as continuing the studio classes and drop-ins. Great fun but at times exhausting...
The May long weekend saw my studio involved in the Central Island Arts Studio Tour, the first since 2019. Two other Wet Paint Group artists joined me here- Stephenie Davidson and Victoria Scott as well as guest artist Jennah Vhay Fox. It was a great weekend.
As well I had several artworks in the Artwrx Small Works Show in Courtenay that ran the last week of May. What a wonderful array of small works!! I just had to buy a couple of lovely little gems!
Here are a few photos and slideshows from the last month or so...

it has taken it's time but finally it is feeling like Spring is arriving. The time has flipped to Daylight Savings Time, the days feel longer, the robins are busy and flowers and shrubs are awakening! Yeah!
The studio continues to be steadily busy and fun as people are emerging from their winter 'hugges' and people are coming back from their snowbird sojourns...
Today I had the first of several "Fantastical Florals, Forests and Still Lifes" workshops. Delightful group and neat artworks!! Here are a few pics:
There is still room in the next 2 workshops - April 15 and April 22. Sign up at the SignUpGenius.
Also there is room in the 4 day Portraits in watercolour class

Glad to have enjoyed a lovely Christmas at Miracle Beach. Despite the snow making travelling difficult, my kids and their families made it home and we had a week of feasting and family fun. Hopefully you did as well!!
And now it is back to the studio and I am so happy to see my friends and students returning. Drop-in Sessions are back on 3 days a week (SignUpGenius) and I have started a Beginning Watercolour 1 Class with six keen students. Fun!
Here are a few of their first projects:

Well the shortest day of the year is here....and with a blast of arctic cold and lots of snow!! Hope you are all keeping warm and cozy as we head towards Christmas! (and maybe Santa will bring you some art supplies for Christmas)
The studio is now closed until Jan.2, 2023, it has been busy the last few months.

The Watercolour 3 class looked at landscape and portraits, both traditional and contemporary. It was fun and they produced some wonderful artworks!
A couple of workshops were lots of fun:
**Florals in the style of Lynn Johnson
Fantastical Florals, Forests and Still Lifes:
And Drop-in Sessions have been ongoing- check for a new Sign-Up Genius for Winter 2023 to join in a session in the new year.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!

One of my favourite things... painting small watercolour postcards while on vacation. Here I am painting at the Alhambra, Granada, Spain in 2012.
